2. Who are the contract associates at OnPoint?
While OnPoint receives hundreds of applications from interested lawyers, we only invite those of the highest quality to join our team. We place particular emphasis on past academic and professional achievement and we rely heavily on references from well-respected lawyers who have had an opportunity to work extensively with the candidates. OnPoint lawyers represent a range of levels of call and possess diverse legal backgrounds to enable us to match the appropriate lawyer to each project.
3. Are OnPoint associates members of the B.C. Bar and do they carry practice insurance?
Yes- all OnPoint contract associates are members of the B.C. Bar in good standing and they carry practice insurance.
4. I thought OnPoint was a research firm. Do the lawyers only complete research projects?
Originally, OnPoint was exclusively a research and writing firm. Since 2000, we have been supplying legal research and writing services to the legal community throughout B.C. and Alberta. While we continue to offer the highest quality research services through our legal research division, we have recently expanded to respond to our clients' requests for additional assistance. In 2007, OnPoint launched both its OnPoint Contract Associates and OnPoint Website Services divisions, with the aim of more fully servicing the needs of lawyers in private law firms, in-house corporate departments, and government agencies.
5. What if I want a specialist in a certain area of law?
OnPoint Contract Associates is a team of contract
lawyers, specifically created to offer diverse lawyers with experience
in a wide range of areas of law. We strive to offer outstanding lawyers
able to "step in" to whatever legal scenario in which our clients'
require some temporary assistance. For longer-term placements, where
our existing lawyers are not appropriate for the position, we utilize
recruitment techniques to locate exceptional candidates.
6. Is OnPoint a recruitment agency?
Yes and No. OnPoint is a firm of contract lawyers
that provides temporary assistance to law firms, corporate counsel and
government agencies. However,
where our existing lawyers are not appropriate for a longer-term placement, we do utilize non-headhunting-based
recruitment and our extensive networking system to locate exceptional
candidates to assist our clients with their temporary needs.
7. What are OnPoint's payment terms?
OnPoint follows standard business practice. We
expect payment within 30
days of invoice. Payment of our invoice is due regardless of whether
our clients have received payment from their own clients. For files
that continue for more than one month, we issue interim invoices. For
our longer-term recruitment placements, we follow standard recruitment

8. How does OnPoint deal with potential conflicts?
We have computerized systems in place to alert us to conflicts. At the outset of a project request, we ask to be provided with the complete style of cause. After consulting with the contract lawyer selected to work on the file, if there appears to be a potential conflict, we will contact you immediately to discuss the matter.
9. Is OnPoint hiring?
We maintain extremely high standards in selecting our contract lawyers. We always keep an eye open for exceptional legal talent for current and future opportunities, and are always searching for appropriate candidates for our locum 'pool'. Please contact us for more information.
